Posts and Poles are not uniform and are measured on the smallest end, ie: all posts or poles measuring 4 3/4" to 5 3/4" on the smallest end are considered a 5" post or pole.

Round stock or Machine peeledlogs may have rings made by the machine and various machine processing marks. This varies from log to log. The log is de-knotted and debarked. Logs generally follow the natural taper of the tree.Logs are a natural product and will have or get cracks.
